A Prayer for Our Time

Updated: Nov 30, 2020

It’s time for serious prayer for our nation and the world at large! The following prayer is provided for your use and to be shared with others who might join us. At the end of this prayer, a couple of passages and a brief discussion of each are provided. Should individual believers concur with the message of this prayer, I hope that they will share the prayer with others until it has encompassed the globe. My heart yearns to see the saints growing in faithfulness to Christ and the minds of unbelievers being opened to accept the one and only God of all creation, Yahweh and his Son, the Messiah. In Christ, we believers are the light of the world. May the Holy Spirit light a flame in each of us that will soon burn so brightly that unbelievers by the millions will be drawn to it and embrace the wonder of the Gospel of Christ as we have. Think big when you pray to the Lord.

Father and Lord,

Around our world, your children are experiencing insult, injury, and death simply because they trust in You, the living, and only God. Misguided unbelief engulfs the nations making life more precarious for all. Sadly, knowledge about you among your children seems to be more personal and selfish than biblically selfless, grateful, life-changing and shared with others. For this reason, and if your Son’s Coming is still in the distant future, I steadfastly and humbly pray that the Holy Spirit will bring a renewal of true faith and obedience in America and in the hearts of all throughout the world who know you as Lord.

For your Church, I specifically pray that the Holy Spirit will stir the hearts of pastors and teachers to study more deeply and thoroughly so that the Word of God will be more effective and life-enriching among those believers who are under their care. Enrich your children with the preeminent knowledge of you, your character, and your will so that each child of God will be an individual light among millions that accurately reveals to others the way to everlasting truth and life. Encourage your children, each and everyone, to spend more time in the Scriptures and to commit to praying regularly for their fellow believers who work in businesses, politics, the military, sports, and other areas where persecution for one’s faith is evident—give them your divine protection as they discover good and thoughtful ways to do what is right when challenges threaten to undo them. Hinder those who would threaten them. May the Holy Spirit so strengthen their faith that the eyes of many will be opened and the threats from unbelief will be seen as cruel and inappropriate among the unbelieving.

Furthermore, I ask you to open the minds of millions around the globe to the life-saving Gospel message of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, your Son. I ask that you divinely silence the mouths of those who hate you and spread the bad news or “Anti-Gospel” of relativity that eliminates truth, a diversity that breeds disunity, a feminism that leads to the emasculation of men and the arrogance of power-seeking women, multiculturalism that ignores genuine evil in our world, and sexual freedom that leads to the destruction of the family and civil society. Our world needs more of your absolute and proven standards than humanity’s shortsighted and selfish utopian ideals, which are no more than divine power-grabs and fully self-destructive of body, mind, and soul. The thought of so many without faith and lost in empty pursuits burdens me deeply and begs me to ask You for grace and mercy on their behalf. Please open the minds of millions to the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Father, please deepen the faith and courage of your children and open the minds of many who defy you so that we all, being your ambassadors, can better know the only true and eternal Father of love and knowledge, His Son, who in His earthly life paid the debt for our sin and was raised from the dead so that we have eternal life, and the Holy Spirit who longs to awaken and enlighten us more and more so that we might walk this earthly journey faithfully.

I pray for and look forward to your imminent return and for the peace that will be established forever in the city of Jerusalem. Even so come, Lord Jesus, in whose name I come before your throne in prayer, Amen!

2 Chronicles 2:13-14: 13 If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among My people, 14 and My people [a]who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Judgment can fall upon God’s children for lack of faithfulness, but God prefers to bless. Though our salvation is secure in Christ, we still must humble ourselves and pray for forgiveness and for His blessing if we desire His presence to equip us properly and be a light that shows others the right path to truth and real security. Simply put, sin undermines our prayers.

2 Thessalonians 5:12-18: 12 But we request of you, brethren, that you appreciate those who diligently labor among you, and have charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction, 13 and that you esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Live in peace with one another. 14 We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone. 15 See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people. 16 Rejoice always; 17 pray without ceasing; 18 in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

For the children of God to grow, those responsible for the training of the saints must diligently instruct themselves in the Word of God so that they can diligently instruct those whom God places under their charge. Through these means, pastors and elders gain respect and peace, through the unification of thought and opinion (1Corinthians 1:10), among believers in the local churches is achievable. And furthermore, joy, ceaseless praying, and constant thankfulness for the blessing of faith will be natural corollaries.

FINAL NOTE: I wrote this prayer solely because 1) my heart is burdened by the lack of sound teaching in the Church at large, 2) my soul is broken over the teaching in the church that avoids so much of the truth and doctrine that is challenging and life-changing to the believer, and 3) my thoughts are troubled over the liberal dystopian and globalist plans, the goals of which are to displace God and Christianity from the public square forever. Though this present state might advocate for the sooner coming of our long-awaited Lord and Savior, I agonize over the eternal loss of so many souls who will become the eternal prey of these mindless and self-absorbed elites, whose love for power condemns generations of souls to eternal damnation. We are all accountable to a loving, just, and righteous God, either through Christ’s sacrifice and resurrection or through our own means, which are always self-destructive. His way is the only way to a fulfilled life and lasting peace. I want to see more people see life through the eyes and heart of our loving God who took on our failures in Christ so that we could embrace His successes in every way possible. I hope that you will share this prayer with as many people as you can so that our voices, for deeper faith and the salvation of millions, continually flow to the throne of God, who enjoys our fellowship and our compassion for others. Pray without ceasing!
